Despite the less-than-ideal weather conditions, media participants aboard four Mu-X and three D-Max RZ4E-powered units braved the intermittent rains for Isuzu Philippines’ #IsuzuDrivewayGetaway2018 to Thunderbird Resort in Poro Point, La Union.
One of the highlights of the activity was a fuel efficiency run whose winner would be determined using the Global Isuzu Diagnostic Service System or G-IDSS. The G-IDSS is a device that connects to a vehicle’s OBD and downloads pertinent data to produce a “Heath Report.” This report includes information on the vehicle’s current mileage; fuel economy; emission condition; braking condition driving time; engine coolant temperature; accelerator pedal opening frequency and deceleration; as well as engine usage.
All the vehicles were checked, filled-up, sealed, and flagged-off from the NLEX Petron KM23 in Marilao. The end of the fuel efficiency test was the TPLEX Petron on KM 134 in Tarlac where IPC’s Taro Unai downloaded data from each of the participating vehicles.
“The RZ4E is a new-generation diesel engine which has been the result of Isuzu’s over 4 years of extensive research in BluePower diesel engine technology, and represents our first foray into the lower displacement but higher output engine technology that has become the trend in Europe and in Asia. Even while generating maximum 150 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque, the 2018 Isuzu D-Max powered by the RZ4E engine–with its over 200 new components–was still able to get a fuel mileage of 23.28 km per liter from the winning media team,” said IPC President Hajime Koso.
