Solar Transport Automotive Resources Corporation (STAR Corp.), the official distributor of BYD vehicles in the country, commemorated its fourth year anniversary last September 28, 2017, at the BYD showroom along Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City.

“We are grateful to all of you most especially to our clients, bank partners and media friends for your unceasing support. BYD Philippines has been in the country for four years now and we are proud to say that our customers are very happy and satisfied,” said STAR Corp. Managing Director Mark Tieng. “In the last four years, BYD introduced various technological advances in the automotive industry. In fact, BYD is now the top supplier of electric vehicles in the world with a market share of 13.2 percent, which is even higher than Tesla’s 9.9 percent,” he added.

BYD S1

The BYD S1 sub-compact SUV is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter 16-valve engine with an output of 150HP and 240Nm of torque. The powertrain is paired with a dual clutch (DCT) six-speed automatic transmission.

Slightly bigger than the Ford Ecosport, the S1 measures 4360x1785mm in length and width, but slightly lower in the height category at 1650mm.

The S1 sports an aggressive front fascia with its long chrome grille, Halogen headlight clusters with LED daytime running lights, two-tone side mirror covers, chrome accents on the hood and door panels, tire cover with reverse camera, and 17” alloy wheels. We also noticed that BYD placed the old-style Yuan Chinese character on the lower left of the rear door.

Inside, the S1 gets soft-to-touch panels on the doors and dashboard, leather seats, barrel-type LCD combination gauges, as well as an eight-inch Android Infotainment System with AUX, USB, and Bluetooth connectivity. It also has audio controls on the steering wheel so you don’t have to move your hands away from the steering wheel when adjusting the volume or changing the radio station. You’ll also see the Yuan character printed on the horn pad and seats.

Other features include a push start/stop button, keyless entry with remote engine start via its Smart Key, dual front airbags, right side mirror camera, parking assist view with parking sensor, and 60/40 foldable rear seats. It is also backed with BYD’s five-year PMS Oil Change Program.

The BYD S1 GLX-I 1.5 is available at the introductory price of Php 999,000.

BYD Forklift

In line with its fourth-anniversary celebration, BYD has also brought in its Lithium Ion Phosphate (LIP) battery-powered Forklift for the local market. The LIP battery is the smallest and most powerful battery available in the market.

The 80-volt Forklift is equipped with automatic speed reduction when cornering, forward tilting and overload protection, braking assist, a battery management system, and a multifunction TFT Screen to help the operator monitor its performance.

It received the prestigious International Forklift Truck of the Year (IFOY) Award in 2016 under the Counter Balanced Truck category — the first time for a Chinese made-vehicle to receive this award.

“The BYD Forklift is the only one of its kind available in the Philippines today. It is designed and built for reliability and operational savings. The battery is made of non-toxic materials. Unlike its lead-acid counterparts, it is lead-free and does not have any lead acid emissions. It is not only safer for the users but it is also safer for the environment as it does not contaminate land, air or water with emissions,” said Tieng.

The BYD LIP Forklift is priced at Php 1,688,000.
