Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) held its Presidential Turnover Ceremony on July 8, 2021. Although President Takeshi Hara officially took over the reins from his predecessor at the start of July, it is a long-standing tradition to hold the ceremony to introduce the new president to the media and its stakeholders. Held virtually this year for safety reasons, MMPC made available both presidents to answer questions about plans and what’s in store for the company.
Mr. Mutsuhiro Oshikiri served as MMPC’s President and CEO from 2017 to 2021. During his term, MMPC celebrated many notable milestones such as the one-millionth unit sold, the 700,000th local unit produced, the 200,000th L300 produced, as well as the relaunch of the Euro 4 version of the L300. It was also during his time that the successful Xpander MPV was launched in the country. Many changes were implemented during his term and, despite the difficulties, Oshikiri was able to lead the company to new heights, as well as open new opportunities for the future of the company.
In his speech, Oshikiri expressed his appreciation for all the support the brand received during his term. “Though there are a lot of challenges that we encountered in the past, I consider myself lucky to have been part of a strong organization that demonstrated admirable resiliency during the most trying times. I am confident that I am leaving MMPC to good people that will uphold its values and will serve the brand well,” he said.
“My successor Mr. Takeshi Hara is a well-seasoned Mitsubishi Motors executive who has extensive experience in sales, marketing, aftersales, and business operations. I have no doubt that he will propel MMPC to new heights,” he added.
Oshikiri is set to retire after 40 years of service with Mitsubishi Motors.
For his part, the new MMPC President said “Oshikiri-san’s service to the company is a tough act to follow as he has accomplished so much during his term as President and CEO. Rest assured that I am as committed as Oshikiri san to not just promote the Mitsubishi Motors brand but also to present wonderful car life with Mitsubishi Motors for our Filipino customers.“
“As you all know, the Philippines is a very important market to Mitsubishi Motors as our brand is very fortunate to receive such strong support from the Filipino market. For decades, MMPC has maintained a strong number 2 position in the Philippine automotive industry thanks to our loyal customers, strong dealer partners, dedicated employees, and of course you, our media partners,” Hara added.
When asked about his plans for the company, Hara said they will work hard to improve their 15% market share and maintain their current #2 overall standing.
